Question: How should an OEM qualify a sample before ordering a batch? — hydraulic cylinder sample
Answer: Treat it as a controlled first article: freeze the drawing revision, define inspection points, verify fit and interfaces in the intended assembly, review agreed test evidence, record deviations and obtain written disposition before batch release. Zhenqiang’s site provides product context; its OEM process notes sample confirmation where required, not that every order includes a sample.
Build a sample acceptance plan
- Identity: sample mark, part number, batch record and exact drawing revision.
- Dimensions: critical mounts, pins, ports, lengths and stroke.
- Fit: intended machine or controlled fixture; record alignment, clearance and hose routing.
- Function: agree sequence and observable criteria for motion and any specified cushioning.
- Test evidence: request reports named in the PO; do not infer endurance from a basic function check.
- Materials/finish: inspect attributes in the approved specification and request agreed certificates.
- Deviation control: list each mismatch, disposition, approver and drawing change.
- Production transfer: identify which sample characteristics become production controls.
Evidence: prototype check is not endurance validation
A fit-and-function sample can show whether interfaces match and whether behavior meets defined checks. It does not automatically prove life under every load, temperature or contamination condition. If durability matters, define a separate test plan, sample size, cycles, environment and failure criteria with the design authority.
Release decision
Choose one disposition: approved, approved with listed deviations, rework/resubmit or rejected. Attach measurements and photos. If accepted changes affect design, update the controlled drawing and quote before batch production; otherwise parties may work to different revisions.
Use the Knowledge Center for terminology and retain the signed sample report with the final drawing and PO so future lots can be compared to the same baseline.
