A hydraulic cylinder converts fluid pressure into linear force and motion. Its main components work together to extend or retract a rod under controlled hydraulic flow.

Extension and Retraction
Pressurized fluid acting on the piston area creates force. In a double-acting cylinder, fluid can be directed to either side of the piston. In a single-acting cylinder, hydraulic pressure drives one direction while gravity, a spring or an external load provides the return.
What Controls Speed and Force
Force is primarily related to pressure and effective area. Speed is related to flow rate and effective area. Real performance is affected by efficiency, pressure losses, seal friction, load geometry and acceleration.
Why Application Data Matters
The same nominal bore and stroke can behave differently depending on mounting, side load, cycle frequency, temperature, contamination and pressure spikes. These inputs should be included in an RFQ.
